2nd grade color mixing fish.
I did this lesson with 2nd grade, first we talked about how to draw fish, we looked at different fish drawings on the internet, ( I saved several pictures and put them in a power point to show the students.) We then talked about filling the picture plane with our drawing. Then we talked about how we needed to divide our fish into 7 sections so we would have enough spaces when mixing our colors. We labeled our sections so we didn't have any mix ups when it came to painting. Students were then given a paint trey with only the primary colors. They were instructed to paint the primary areas first and then go back and mix their secondary colors. We talked about trying to keep straight edges when painting. When they were done painting they finished the fins, mouth, eyes and background in crayon. I thought the kids did an awesome job and they had a great time doing these.

Manikin Madness
Stole this project from Laura Shifflett (King City R-1).
Students had to come up with a theme, and postion a drawing manikin and draw it. The drawings were to fill the page, have a variety of sizes, run off of the page on each side, and include overlapping. Below are some example of my students works. They were to finish in a creative manner

My 3rd graders are doing one of my most favorite projects ever! It is the color mixing caterpillar. I found the lesson on YouTube and it has the cutest video to introduce the lesson. Check out the linkhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhgtTG4kKPQ This link will take you to step one, there are four steps total (4 diff videos) you should be able to access all four steps from the step one video. If you have trouble with the link simply go to www.youtube.com and search the color mixing Caterpillar. ENJOY!
